Project Overview
The Lamoille Valley Community Justice Project (LVCJP) was developed through the collaborative efforts of People in Partnership and its participating members.
Long Term Goal:
The long term goal of the LVCJP is to reduce the number of 18-21 year olds under the supervision of the Department of Corrections.
Community and Restorative Justice: This initiative is founded on the principles of community and restorative justice. Community justice is about the quality of life in a community. Restorative justice is about holding an offender accountable to the victim, repairing the harm done by a crime, and giving the community a role in responding to both the victim and the offender.
Two Approaches: The LVCJP uses a two-pronged approach to expand and enhance existing community and restorative justice activities in the Valley. One strategy calls for increasing community awareness and involvement, while the other consists of preventive and early intervention case management supports and services.
